I began teaching Canadian Studies in 2002; I taught Canadian Culture and Society courses most recently in 2022. That’s a long time to be thinking about Canada. Add to that the years I spent taking Canadian Studies courses at University College/University of Toronto–whose program turned 50 this year–and I’ve spent more than half of my life engaged in the study of a country I wasn’t born in and didn’t hold citizenship in until I was in my late teens.
Over the course of 2026, my Canadian cultural nationalism gesture will be to add updated Canadian Studies resources here. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this in a manner that is both efficient (for me) and effective (for users).
One option is to add a course: I’m learning about a program that would enable a free, open access online course through the use of WordPress. That’s going to take me a while.
